The Fairness Campaign is part of a statewide coalition aimed at the passage of a statewide Fairness law, protecting all Kentuckians from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, and public accommodations. In Kentucky, Fairness laws exist in only three areas: Covington, Lexington/ Fayette County, and Louisville, leaving over 75% of the Commonwealth’s residents vulnerable to legal discrimination.
A 1999 Decision Research Poll documented 74% of Kentuckians support a statewide Fairness law, though the measure has never even come to a committee vote in the state’s legislature. Nationally, Fairness laws have been adopted in 20 states and the District of Colombia.
